Please note this is a two session course. This is recommended for teachers new to Canyons District, but will benefit all teachers. A.S.P.E.N. is a program created by educators, Dr. Ben Springer and Dr. Ben Belnap, for educators. The content is derived from current best practices, evidence based practices, and a survey of available programs addressing aggressive behaviors in the school setting. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of the coercion cycle, flow theory, RICH IEPs, and ABC data. Highly recommended for 1st year and new to the district teachers.

They are written from the child's perspective, using simple language and visuals to explain social expectations, rules, and routines. Learn how you can use AI and specifically MagicSchool to get your days, nights, and weekends back as a special educator to support paperwork and compliance, as well as truly being able to personalize supports and accommodations for students. Participants will explore evidence-based supported writing strategies tailored to meet the diverse needs of learners with moderate to severe disabilities, including those with communication, cognitive, and motor challenges. The session will focus on practical approaches to embedding writing instruction into daily routines using tools such as sentence frames, graphic organizers, alternative pencils, AAC supports, and modeled writing. Emphasis will be placed on strategies that promote student engagement, independence, and expressive language development while aligning with IEP goals and state writing standards. Participants will leave with a toolbox of adaptable strategies, sample lesson materials, and planning templates that can be immediately implemented in their classrooms.

This session will focus on what executive functioning skills are, the importance of practicing them throughout the school day, and how to do this to get the best results from your students.
This training explores the interrelationship between sensory processing, child temperament, and childhood trauma responses. It addresses the challenges of differentiating and effectively intervening when symptoms overlap. Participants will gain an understanding of these interconnected areas, allowing them to distinguish between and address the specific needs of children. Key topics include sensory processing, child temperament, the impact of adverse childhood experiences, and common strategies for intervention.
Based on district behavioral priorities, this training will review multiple tiered interventions. Participants will dive deeper into interventions of their choice and create a practical plan for their classroom and the behavioral intervention. They will also get a chance to create and share materials with participants.
